Indian Journal of Distance Education

The Indian Journal of Distance Education (IJDE), a peer-reviewed and refereed journal published annually by the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, was established in 1987 at a time when distance education was being recognised as a key means of widening access to learning under the National Policy on Education 1986. Since its inception, the journal has provided a sustained platform for scholarly engagement with issues in Open and Distance Learning (ODL), while also documenting broader developments in higher education, pedagogy, and research practices. Its continued relevance may also be situated within recent policy developments such as the National Education Policy 2020, which underscores flexible and inclusive approaches to higher education. Over the years, the journal has addressed shifting academic contexts thereby reflecting its responsiveness to contemporary developments in the field."The journal adopts an interdisciplinary approach, inviting contributions from a wide range of disciplines including education, social sciences, literature and language studies, political science, religious studies, New Media Studies, disability studies, and environmental studies. This range indicates an understanding of research as closely connected with broader social, cultural, and technological concerns. IJDE follows a selective publication process, with submissions evaluated on the basis of methodological clarity, appropriate use of citations, and coherence of argument, ensuring that only rigorously developed research is included. The journal has consistently published work addressing issues such as access to education for marginalised communities, inclusion, and the impact of digital platforms on learning practices. By encouraging submissions from both experienced scholars and emerging researchers, it also contributes to developing research capacity within the academic community.
